Description of the role:

As an Animatable Systems Creator (rigger) at Ubi MTL, you will bring characters and objects to life and enable them to move realistically within our worlds.

Rotate, bend, squash or stretch... you will define what can be done and how through your flexible and intuitive systems. You will draw inspiration from reality when possible and use imagination when it's not. Thanks to the various internal tools at your disposal, you can focus on the quality and consistency of your results without having to recreate everything from scratch each time.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with the art team to understand the overall vision of the game and the animation and appearance requirements.
  • Familiarize yourself with concept art and conduct your own research.
  • Create rigs and apply textures to characters and objects while staying organized (ensure scene cleanliness, follow naming conventions, etc.).
  • Find the balance between artistic aspects and technical constraints with the help of technical directors.
  • Collaborate with character modelers to correct models as needed.
  • Work with animators to make models move realistically and manage movement limitations.
  • Refine your work based on feedback from interdependent teams.

Qualifications

What you bring to the team:

  • A minimum of 4–5 years of experience in creating animatable systems, modeling or animation (or other relevant experience).
  • Strong knowledge of 3DS Max.
  • Knowledge of other 3D software, a major asset (Maya and MotionBuilder) + familiarity with scripting.
  • Good knowledge of anatomy and musculature.
  • Excellent observation, organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative, creative and innovative mindset.
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness.
  • Motivation to seek colleagues’ opinions and the ability to adapt to them.
  • Familiarity with game engines (Unity or Unreal), an asset.
