Job Introduction
BBC Sport is responsible for the coverage of the very best of the nation’s major sporting events, from the Olympics through Wimbledon, Match of the Day, Champions league and FA Cup Football. We produce and also commission world class content across TV, Radio, Online, I player and sounds and serve the biggest UK sports audiences with a massive range of content.
Main Responsibilities
The Senior Systems Engineer, works in a small technical team supporting and delivering production needs and ensuring we produce the highest quality content to our delivery guidelines. Working with Producers, Production management, Engineering/ Technical managers and craft specialists as an engineering specialist and also sometimes working as junior tech producer on location as well as base. A strong team player and a capable self-supporting engineer who understands live broadcast workflows, systems and deadlines. The range of work is from, onsite hands on program support, through systems design and project work in Media city, to supporting and shaping our technical strategies especially our streaming operations. Working across all areas of TV, radio, online, sports news, short form, and all digital areas.
This role is primarily hybrid and based in Salford, however there is also a requirement to travel for short term and sometimes multi week deployments, some of which are outside of the UK.
Are you the right candidate?
This role requires an excellent understanding of broadcast engineering including encoding and IP and network technology as well as more traditional broadcast technologies. Good and detailed knowledge of broadcast systems and operations with an aptitude for control system configuration. Responsible for ensuring operations deliver as planned and interface into back end systems and hand over points, whilst operating efficiently and within BBC compliance rules for safety and security.
- Experience in the design, delivery and support of technical systems and infrastructure within a live broadcast, IT and media technology environment.
- Able to travel and work independently, as well as being a strong team player able to support and operate in high profile live environments.
- Proven and effective communication and documentation skills with the ability to instruct and delegate to colleagues.
- Proven ability to deliver to deadlines and demonstrate resilience to ensure the correct technical solution is selected with a full understanding of the costs, timescales and risk involved.
- Demonstrable attention to detail and happy and knowledgeable to be hands on with broadcast systems, often temporary and short term builds.
